Slide Wheel

Unique and exciting tool for presenting a series of textures in Second Life, released free under the GNU GPL v3.

Sorry, I can no longer maintain a presence on the SL Marketplace to distribute items directly in-world.

However, if you are interested in this item then I would be happy to transfer a copy personally to your avatar (at no charge).

Another slideshow tool...?

Yes! There are lots of slideshow tools already in Second Life, but this one is a bit different. Instead of showing slides one-by-one, it arranges all the slides in one big wheel. The current slide jumps forwards and gets bigger so that it is visible. When you advance to the next slide, it jumps back, the wheel rotates, and the next slide jumps forward.

Can I jump to different slides?

Yes, you can jump to any slide you like. Just click the desired slide in the wheel and the whole thing will rearrange to show the slide you requested. With a large presentation, it can be quite spectacular!

How do I set it up?

It is very simple, and full instructions can be found on a notecard inside the product. In summary, you just need to make sure all your slide textures are in alphabetical order (you can do that by adding a number to the front of each texture name). You then put the textures inside the main Slide Wheel box, click the Rez button, and you're ready to go.

Note: it is important to plan when you want your Slide Wheel to appear. Lots of slides can result in a rather big wheel, so make sure you have enough space!

How do I use it?

When it's setup, you have two main methods of controlling it. You can click the buttons directly on the Slide Wheel unit itself, or you can use the included HUD. Any given Slide Wheel unit will (by default) only connect with HUDs from the same owner.

Can I get the scripts?

Yes, the whole object and its scripts are full-perm when you get it through the SL Marketplace. I recommend getting the scripts that way because it is a little bit complicated to put everything together manually. If there is demand for this in OpenSim then I may port it and post an IAR file online. (If you'd like to volunteer to do that yourself then feel free... the scripts are GPL for that very reason!)

Credits

Thanks go to my supervisor, Daniel Livingstone (SL: Buddy Sprocket), for suggesting the concept of the Slide Wheel. I only built it for a one-off conference presentation we were invited to give, but it turned out to be pretty popular!
